Influencer is quite the enjoyable thriller with a heavy dose of tension and equal parts suspense.
Cassandra Naud, Emily Tennant, and Roy J Saper have the most screentime, but it’s Naud that absolutely kills it. Naud brings this brimming mad energy to CW that makes her a sinister menace. Tennant and Saper have their moments too, as do the supporting cast, but Naud is the main star and absolutely owns every scene she’s in.
There are bits of the story that could have been more fleshed out, but everything works well overall. There is a bit of superficial influencer vapidity, but thankfully not a lot, as the film focuses more on CW and how she maneuvers around other people. Intriguing characters all around, though some might feel a bit tacky and annoying.
The visuals are fine. Aside from a few shots, nothing above good here. That said, you get quite a bit of Thailand. I also liked that there was a focus on specific bits of perspective to raise suspense and tension, even if it wasn’t used nearly as much as it could have.
The composed parts of the soundtrack are great at highlighting already tense scenes, though the selected tracks felt entirely unnecessary. Still, the few selected pieces were few and far between, so they aren’t present enough to ruin any scene.
Influencer is an entertaining psychological thriller with some interesting characters. Worth watching, especially for those with a Shudder subscription.

A struggling father purchases a domestic SIM to help take care of the house and care for his family while his wife is in hospital. Things take a turn for the worse when she gains awareness and starts making deadly decisions.

Slow paced technological thriller with some alarming premonitions on future advancements. Strong performance from Megan Fox with some captivating visuals.

With the rapid advancement of technology comes new fears and concerns about the unknown. Interest in the techno-horror subgenre has increased in the last few years giving rise to a whole new range of mechanized phobias. Piggybacking on the success of 'M3GAN' comes the similarly themed 'Subservience' which brings the horror from the playground, into the bedroom.
S.K. Dale is a relatively new director with four shorts and two full length features (both starring Megan Fox) under his belt. He may not be piling up the Oscars, but he does have a knack for creating compelling films with great visuals on miniscule budgets. While there are several parallels between the 'M3GAN' and 'Subservience' storylines, the latter takes the story into a more adult direction with the android developing emotions such as jealousy, and using her attributes to seduce the reluctant father figure under the guise of reducing his stress. Pacing wise, 'Subservience' is more of a slow burn type of thriller with great detail taken to develop the characters and expand the family dynamic.
Although she is meant to convey a dispassionate robot, Megan Fox (Jennifer's Body, This is 40) does an excellent job here as the android Alice, and demonstrates the subtlest of emotions as she slowly becomes sentient. Unfortunately, I wasn't the biggest fan of Michele Morrone (365 Days, Duetto) who played the father Nick, I just didn't find him believable in his role. Luckily, both Madeline Zima (Bombshell, Californication 'TV Series') as the mom Maggie and Matilda Firth (Starve Acre, Wolf Man) as the daughter Isla put forth good performances to round out the film.
'Subservience' definitely leans more on the thriller side of things as the film works to deliver an ominous and suspense driven atmosphere. I also found the deliberate focus on the pitfalls of the rise of technology concerning, as many of the advancements shown here will be available in the not too distant future.
Decent techno-horror with an engaging storyline and entertaining visuals.

Megan Fox's character name was changed from Alice to Megan in the Russian version of the film to avoid any resemblance to the Russian intelligent personal assistant for Android, iOS and Windows operating systems. Of all the names they could have chosen, they took the name of another AI horror film.
Madeline Zima who plays the wife in 'Subservience', also played the daughter in 1992's 'The Hand That Rocks the Cradle', a movie that has similar plot elements, minus the androids.
