Wildlife photographer snaps shot of ‘never-before-seen’ yellow penguin

This is a meeting! ???? The rarest yellow king penguin, possibly for the first time ever, was captured by Belgian wildlife photographer Yves Adams with his #Nikon # D850 camera:

“As we unpacked our rubber boats after disembarking on a remote beach on South Georgia Island in the Atlantic Ocean, this king penguin headed straight for us amid the chaos of other native inhabitants: elephant seals, Antarctic fur seals and thousands of other king penguins. I am incredibly lucky, as if I won the lottery! "

The unusual color of the bird is associated with a genetic mutation - isabellinism, which causes “fading” of plumage: feathers, which should be black, acquire a yellowish tint. Fortunately, this feature usually does not harm the health and successful life of penguins among relatives.

“On the expedition, I took a Nikon D850 with me along with the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f / 5.6E PF ED VR. On that trip, I tested this lens for the first time, says Yves. - And, as it turned out, this is the perfect pair, which is very convenient to take with you to shoot wildlife.

Before that I usually used AF-S #NIKKOR # 600mmf4, but AF-S #NIKKOR # 500mmf56 is fantastic! Lightweight, compact, fast, and can be freely carried along with other landscape optics. Despite its rather compact size, this telephoto lens copes with tasks at a high level - the background is beautifully blurred due to the shallow depth of field, there is a clear separation of the subject from the background.

In general, this effect can be achieved more often with compact telephoto zoom lenses, but since I still prefer using prime lenses in my work, the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f / 5.6E PF ED VR has become one of my favorite lenses.

Combined with the D850, the kit is lightweight, it was very convenient for me to shoot handheld and still get the same image quality as with the heavier AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f / 4G ED VR. ”
