A slightly addictive story from Pakistan's colonial past. In 1899, a drunken British officer, James Squid, suddenly decided that the tree was trying to escape from him. Therefore, he called the soldiers and ordered to catch the tree, and then chain it so that it would no longer run. And went to bed.
Soldiers are forced people. Is there an order? Eat. So it must be done. And by morning they chained the tree. Continuation under the cut.
In the morning the officer woke up and was surprised to learn that he had given a strange order, which was carried out unquestioningly. Later a sign appeared on the tree: “One evening a British officer, very drunk, thought that I was moving from my previous place, and ordered the mess sergeant to arrest me. I have been under arrest since then.”
The chain tree has been standing for 125 years and is one of the main tourist spots in Peshawar. The British authorities also liked this story at one time. The tree in chains showed that this would happen to everyone who dared to act against the authorities.
