Fortunately, the passengers were able to quickly put out the fire. The owner of the ill-fated charger got away with a burn on her leg. Well, the other passengers probably lost a bunch of nerve cells.
On the Yakutia Airlines flight Yak-488 during the flight from St. Petersburg to Yakutia, at an altitude of several thousand meters above the ground, a power bank in the hand luggage of one of the passengers suddenly caught fire. According to eyewitnesses, the 21-year-old girl immediately began to trample the bag to put out the flames, but she was unable to do so. Fortunately, passengers immediately rushed to her aid and were able to prevent a possible terrible tragedy. "Thanks to the vigilance of passengers and the coordinated professional actions of flight attendants, the source of the smoke was promptly detected," the airline said in a statement. As the airline later reported, the cause of the fire was a short circuit in the power bank. Despite the very dangerous incident, the plane completed the flight normally, landing at its destination. At the Yakutsk airport, the plane was met by doctors. They hospitalized the owner of the power bank, who, in her emotions, tried to stamp out the flames, ignoring the burns. Meanwhile, the Yakutsk transport police began an investigation - witnesses and eyewitnesses of the incident are being questioned. In turn, the Yakutia airline reminded that power banks and other devices with lithium batteries must be protected from short circuits: the contacts must be insulated, and the batteries themselves must be in their original packaging or separate protective bags.
