YouTube Officially Rolls Out New Feature to Detect and Label Al-Generated Content for Viewers

YouTube will now automatically label videos that use significant photorealistic AI.

The platform says it will no longer fully depend on creators to disclose AI-generated videos themselves.

YouTube’s internal systems will detect when realistic AI has been used and add labels on the video.

The company also said AI labels will become more visible on both long-form videos and YouTube Shorts.

YouTube has already required creators to disclose AI content that could be mistaken for a real person, place, or event.

However, videos that are clearly animated or fantasy-based do not need the same type of label.

Starting in May, YouTube will use new internal signals to identify AI-generated content and label it if creators fail to do so.

Creators will still be able to update the disclosure status if their content is wrongly labeled.

But if the video was made using YouTube’s own AI tools, such as Veo or Dream Screen, the label cannot be removed.

The move comes as AI video tools become more realistic and harder to identify.
