PTALaunches 5G Services Mail 280 Maps in22Pakistani Cities
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed that 5G services are now active in 22 cities across Pakistan, briefing the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunications.
Officials said 5G has also been launched in four sectors of Islamabad, with speed tests in Sector F-8 showing around 100 Mbps. They added that the upcoming 5G spectrum auction is expected to improve network quality and raise average 4G speeds to about 40 Mbps.
Lawmakers, however, expressed concern over poor telecom service quality. Sadiq Memon said new technologies like 5G would have limited impact unless existing connectivity issues are resolved.
PTA officials cited ongoing electricity load-shedding of up to 10 hours in some areas as a major challenge affecting telecom networks. Members also noted a decline in customer support standards, saying major operators had reduced helpline capacity.
The committee chairman called for strict action, including penalties and show-cause notices against underperforming companies.
